If you are driving south, approximately 40 minutes south of the Queensland/New South Wales border you will see the turnoff on the left to Byron Bay. This is Ewingsdale Road, which will take you into the heart of Byron Bay. If you're coming from the south, take the same turnoff, or you can follow the coast road up from Ballina, coming past Lennox Head, Broken Head and Suffolk Park on your way into Byron Bay. Byron Bay and the surrounding towns, villages and countryside are abundant with food producers, restaurants, cafes and places to chill out with a picnic. You will find world-class eateries, specialist food stores, organic and biodynamic produce and simply great coffee, not to mention the local tropical delicacies such as macadamia nuts and dragon fruit. The farmers' market, in Byron Bay on Thursday mornings and in Bangalow on Saturday mornings, a wonderful place to buy fresh produce. The magical mix of residents, with their strong and varied points of view, has helped shape the Byron Bay we all love today. Byron Bay is located in the Northern Rivers region in NSW, just off the Pacific Highway, 800kms north of Sydney, 170kms south of Brisbane (about 90kms south of the Gold Coast). There are two airports in the vicinity with a train station and bus depot located in the centre of town. |
